Maguey Fibre Bag
The beautiful Maguey Fibre Bag has been hand made by mexican artists for many many years. This is an age old textile tradition that you support when you purchase one of these bags.
The Maguey plant fiber is extracted from the Maguey (Agave) plant and then spun into twisted cord.
Once this tightly twisted cord is spun, it’s constructed around a simple frame with a wooden base and two metal uprights at each edge. Made sideways with a looping or linked construction, there is only one seam that gets sewn together at the end.
It takes a lot of practice to spin quality cord for bags and after watching this process, we can see that it’s not easy, nor is it fast.
A simple adjustable leather straps is than added to the bag.
The Maguey fiber is very strong. The finished bag expands for carrying many items, and contracts when emptied.
