When we started Nakawé, we always dreamed to take a professional photographer with us to capture the magic of Oaxaca.
The delicious food…
The people and their stories…
and most of all the incredibly talented artisans.
When we asked @chrisandman to come with us, we had no idea what we would be able to accomplish. The work of the artisans is a labor of love. We wanted to capture the entire process and the story behind each piece of art as best we could. All we could do was pray we would be in the right place at the right time every time.
These photos prove that dreams do come true ✨✨
During countless visits with the Martinez family, we have come to know a lot about their unique passion for working with clay. Their relationship and respect for the land and ancestral Zapotec traditions are quite remarkable. We can find their symbolism in their work, in their motives; and by mixing this with reduction and kiln firing techniques, they result in artistic and daily-use pieces with a unique personality.
Each piece of clay pottery we receive is a gift as they can only make so many pieces and the demand for their work is high. We welcome you to our Sayulita and Tulum boutiques to find a special piece for your home
